For Primary Waterproofing

Coprox as an additive

As an excellent preventative in all those cases where initial waterproofing is of prime importance, Coprox may be added to concrete, plaster, mortar orscreedintheratioof 10% Coproxtothequantityofthecementbeing used in any such mixture i.e. 5 kg Coprox to a 50 kg pocket of cement. Sand and/or stone in the aggregate is ignored.

FOR EXISTING STRUCTURES

Coprox brush-on application

1. Surface preparation
Remove dust, dirt, loose particles, oil, rubber, casein, asphalt, tar, paint and calcamine from the surfaces to be treated. It is most imperative for those surfaces onto which Coprox is to be applied, to be perfectly clean. One of the unique properties of Coprox is its penetratting effect on masonry with its associated waterproofing qualities. If this is, however, obstructed by oil, grease, paint or any otherforeign bodies, this process cannot effectively take place. If there is any doubt as to surface cleanliness in those cases where there is no paint or any other coating, such surfaces should be cleaned by applying a solution of one part hydrochloric acid (spirit of salt) and ten parts of water. Leave this solution for approximately two hours, and then wash down well with water.Remove paint or any other foreign bodies with a wire brush and/or an effective paint remover. In more acute cases, scrape and/or sandpaper surfaces manually orwithasandpapering machine. Wash off the dirt and particles.

NOTE: New mortar, screed, concrete or plaster should be properly cured before Coproxination.

2. Mixing
Sprinkle Coprox powder slowly into water on a 1:1 ratio (e.g. 2 litres per 2 kg), stirring constantly with a wooden paddle until solution becomes smooth and creamy. Let stand foraboutl5 minutes. Do not mix with bare handsto avoid skin irritation. This solution should be used within 2 hours to prevent hardening.

3. Surface Application

FIRST COAT

(a) Thoroughly wet the surface to be treated.
(b) Stir solution well and apply Coprox using a fibre or whitewash brush onto the wet surface. Stir frequently during application to prevent settling. Thoroughly cover depressions, fine cracks and pin holes. For large cracks see "Plugging Mixture For Cracks" on page 12.
(c) Wet the treated surface 5-6 hours later using a fine spray.

SECOND COAT

(a) Apply 6-8 hours or more after the first coat in the same manner as above.
(b) Wet the treated surface 5-6 hours later using a fine

4. Curing
It is normally not necessary to wet the wall surface after applying Coprox, asemperaiures are present, wetting the treated surface after each coat using a spray prevents the Coprox from drying too quickly and assists the curing process. Covering the treated surfaces with wet bags or plastic sheetina is recommended to assist the curing process particularly when directs one sunshine on the treated surface cannot be avoided. Where possSe tart on the shady side of the structure and follow the sun, there by avoiding direct sunlights.

NOTE:The substrate will only absorb sufficient Coprox as is necessary to render it waterporoof.Powdering of excess Coprox after application may therefore occur.Simply dust or wash off the excess.

5.Efflorescence
Treatment for efflorescence is the same as above.

6.Recommended number of coats
Eterior surfaces and surfaces below ground level-2 coats.Interior walls about ground level-1 coat. (If surface is particularyporous, two coats may be necessary).

7. Painting
The Coprox treatment must be properly cured and completely dry before any decorative finish is to be applied. The best paint int the world will not adhere to a damp or wet surface.

8. Coverage
(a) 1st coat: Approx. 4 m2 per kg. (bj 2nd coat: Approx 8 mz per kg.

9 Suitable surfaces

Concrete, cinder block, mortar, cement plaster, stucco, unglazed brick, and old cement paint washes.

10. Unsuitable surfaces
Bitumen, tar, wax, oil, rubber, casein and paints, calcium carbonate and fibreglass coated pools, glass, plastic, metal and wood, all of which have to be removed before 'COPROXINATION1.

11. Weather Conditions
Do not apply Coproxonexteriorsurfaces during rain, freezing temperature, high winds and strong sunshine. If possible, apply Coprox under shady conditions. If strong sunshine cannot be avoided see "Curing" on page 8.

12. Durability
The lifetime of Coprox is virtually indefinite if not injured by scratching, abrasion or impacts.
